In this adaptive reuse of a paint production and distribution facility, Carlin Construction drove the fast-track transformation into one of Connecticut’s first four licensed medicinal marijuana production facilities — with Theraplant receiving the highest score among 16 applicants. The breakneck 5-month schedule also enabled Theraplant to attain its goal of becoming the state’s first grow facility with product available for distribution.
Carlin’s Construction advisory role began with extensive pre-submittal work during the rigorous application process, including location visits/selection, examination of regulatory issues, assessment of existing conditions, and development of local community support. Necessary municipal approvals were quickly put in place upon license award, enabling construction to begin almost immediately.
Augmented by a typical array of office and common-area amenities, major portions of this fully ADA-compliant facility are dedicated to medicinal marijuana production and harvesting. These areas include complex temperature and humidity control systems — along with sophisticated camera-based security systems for intrusion detection and access control.
